It has been weeks since my last post and I have SO much going on, I don't know where to begin. Let me just start by saying it's February, the month of LOVE! I figured I better get a move on with this Valentine's day post before it's too late.
To go along with the sentiment of love, let me tell you...I started my pediatric rotation two weeks ago.....so that brings me to things I DON'T love. Which are poopy diapers, green boogers, and tiny tots coughing in your face. I kid, I kid. Pediatrics is pretty awesome and I'm actually enjoying this rotation. Right now I'm spending my time in the newborn nursery where we go to deliveries and and do daily rounds on the newborns. I have really seen myself grow quite a lot in just two weeks, because I tell you, the first day I didn't even want to be in the same room as a baby, let alone perform a physical exam. But now...now I'm comfortable and the little monsters are actually growing on me : ) But seriously. Give your kid a kleenex.
Do you remember when you were a kid and you celebrated Valentine's day? How much fun was it to go to the store and pick out the coolest VDay card. Yours had to be the best in the the class. Maybe you bought a box of conversation hearts for everyone in the class too. For some reason, I can never remember liking conversation hearts...and now the thought of eating them makes my stomach turn. Giving those things to kids is like crack in candy form. They go sugar wild.
(speaking of sugar wild...have you seen Alana from Toddlers and Tiaras...and her "Go Go Juice"? If you haven't you should. Click here to watch Alana aka "honey boo boo" And yes. I do occasionally watch the show. Stop judging me.)
Anywho, even though I don't eat the things, they are quite useful for projects, and are CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP! I made two projects: Conversation heart art, and a conversation heart vase.
Project Idea #1: Conversation Heart Art
I don't think I need to post the directions to this project as it is pretty obvious from the picture. If you can't figure it out, I got the idea from Christina over at My Creative Departure where she goes into detailed directions. So simple, and genius. Loves it.
All you need is a frame, conversation hearts, and some glue. Easy peasy. I got the frame and stand both from the $1 bins at Target, however I would recommend using a glass frame versus plastic due to the weight of the candies and glue. I was too time stressed to go find a thrifted frame, so the plastic frame had to do, but it turned out cute regardless.
Project Idea #2: Conversation Heart Vase
I saw an idea a while back where a small vase was placed inside of a larger vase, and then the outside vase was filled with some cute candy or fruit and the inside was filled with flowers. This is SUCH an easy way to decorate for every holiday or season!!!
I really didn't want to spend too much $ on this project so I bought the vases at the local Goodwill store....and by local I mean 15 minute CTA bus ride with some pretty peculiar folks. Anyways all you need is one large vase, and another vase smaller in diameter+ shorter or the same height as the larger vase (The inside "vase" I used is really a water glass...I told you to stop judging me)

P.S. How do you like my wine bottle? I have reached new lows. I saw wine bottles in the community recycling bin and snatched them. What can I do with them? Either do what I did above....fill the wine bottle with leftover hearts and top it with a candlestick OR you can.....
Pour your favorite color of craft paint into a wine glass and fill with water + carnation. This flower is still living after a month.

Glue the smaller vase to the bottom of the inside vase. I used E6000 glue for both projects because it's my go to glue. But hey, use whatever glue you fancy.
Then all you need to do is fill the outside with something special! I was really hoping to get yellow roses or light pink gerber daisies...but after my trek to the flower store only to find it was CLOSED (even though the website stated OTHERWISE), Walgreens flowers had to do.
So, there you have it. How to make Valentine's Day decorations for less than $3.
XOXO
